Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy has signed a new one-year contract with the Premier League club.

Vardy, who joined Leicester in 2012, has scored 190 goals in 464 appearances.

The 37-year-old was a key player in Leicester’s 2015-16 Premier League title-winning season.

Centre-back Jannik Vestergaard, 31, has also secured a new deal until the summer of 2027. However, Marc Albrighton, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Dennis Praet will leave the club as free agents.

Former England striker Vardy has also won the FA Cup, Community Shield, and two Championship titles with Leicester, including last season’s title that earned the club promotion to the Premier League.

“I’ve always said that age is just a number,” Leicester captain Vardy said. “My legs feel fine so that’s why I carry on until my legs say ‘that’s it, game over’. There will be a day when that comes, but that’s not right now.”

“We look forward to another season in the Premier League and seeing what we can do. One hundred per cent, it’s the best league in the world,” Vardy added.

“That’s where you want to be playing your football.”

Vardy won 26 England caps, with his last coming in 2018.

Denmark international Vestergaard, who joined the Foxes from Southampton in August 2021, made 42 Championship appearances for the club last season.

“With the football and my situation having developed in a positive way, I’m just very happy to be here,” he said.

“It’s something that fills me with some sort of pride as well that I went through the lows and I continued to work. I’ve come out on the other side and shown a little bit more of what I can contribute.”

Winger Marc Albrighton, 34, departs Leicester City after a decade, having made 313 appearances and winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield, and Championship title.

Nigeria forward Kelechi Iheanacho, 27, scored 61 goals during his seven-year tenure at Leicester. Meanwhile, 30-year-old Belgian midfielder Dennis Praet leaves after 107 appearances.

The Foxes are still in discussions with Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, 27, regarding his future as his contract nears expiration.
