Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury faces charges of driving under the influence.
Police reported that a vehicle was stopped on Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, around 01:45 GMT on Friday.
A man was arrested on suspicion of refusing to provide a breath specimen, the force stated.
Mr. Choudhury has subsequently been charged with driving while exceeding the alcohol limit. The 26-year-old also faces accusations of driving without due care and attention, as well as failing to cooperate with a preliminary test.
Hailing from Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, Mr. Choudhury has been released on unconditional bail and is scheduled to appear before magistrates in Nottingham on 23 February.
He participated in the Monday match between the Foxes and Ipswich.
