Leicester sign Palace forward Ayew for £5m

Leicester City have signed Ghanaian forward Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace on a two-year contract in a deal valued at an initial £5 million.

Ayew, who spent the last six years with Palace after initially joining on loan in 2018, will enhance Leicester’s attacking options. He made 212 appearances for Palace, scoring 23 goals, and recently featured as a second-half substitute in their 2-1 loss to Brentford on Sunday.

The 32-year-old’s transfer fee could increase to £8 million with add-ons. He joins Oliver Skipp, who signed from Tottenham for £20 million earlier this week, as a new addition to Leicester’s squad.

Manager Steve Cooper had previously expressed his desire to strengthen the team’s forward line.

“I’m very happy to be here and I’m proud. I want to thank the club as they fought hard to bring me here – it happened quickly and I’m so happy to be here,” Ayew said.

“As a player, when you hear that the manager wants you, it just makes you want to come and work under him and to try to improve.

“Even though I’m 32, as a player you always want to learn and improve. I’m here to work hard and help the team achieve their targets.”

Newly promoted Leicester City began their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, with Jamie Vardy netting the equalizer.

The Foxes will next face Fulham in an away match on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
