LIV 4-3 MCI: Liverpool hand Man City’s first defeat
Liverpool handed Manchester City their first defeat in the English Premier League after a crushing 4-3 loss at Anfield on Sunday.
Liverpool got off to the perfect start as they opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain weaved his way past a couple of defenders before firing into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box, 1-0.
City suffered another set-back on the hour mark when Fabian Delph had to leave the field injured and was replaced by Danilo.
In the 40th minute, though, City managed to pull level after a great solo run from Leroy Sane saw him beat two defenders before perfecting slotting the ball into the net from just inside the box, 1-1.
The game entered the half time break with the scores level.
Five minutes into the second half City nearly took the lead when Nicolas Otamendi latched onto a cross into the box, but saw his header comeback off the crossbar.
In the 59th minute Liverpool took the lead for the second time when Oxlade-Chamberlain found Roberto Firmino inside the box and he proceed to cleverly chip goalkeeper Ederson to make it 2-1.
Two minutes later the Reds found their third goal when Mohamed Salah played Sadio Mane into space and the Senegalese international duly curled the ball into the top left corner, 3-1.
The match was over as a contest in the 68th minute when a thunderous long range shot from Salah found the back of the net, 4-1.
City tried to find their way back into the game and did find a couple of consolation goals courtesy of Bernardo Silva in the 84th minute and Ilkay Gundogan in the 91st minute, but it was too little too late as the game ended 4-3.
