Liverpool sign Juventus winger Chiesa

Liverpool have completed the signing of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa for an initial fee of £10 million, with an additional £2.5 million in performance-based add-ons.

The 26-year-old forward has agreed to a four-year contract, becoming Arne Slot’s first signing since taking over as manager.

Chiesa was a standout player for Italy’s national team, playing a key role in their victory over England in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans,” Chiesa told the club website.

“So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”

Chiesa made an immediate impact during his debut season at Juventus, earning a spot in Serie A’s Team of the Year.

However, his momentum was halted by a serious knee injury in January 2022, which required surgery and affected his form.

Despite this setback, Chiesa managed to score 32 goals in 131 appearances for Juventus, including 10 goals in 37 matches last season.

With his contract set to expire next summer, newly-appointed Juventus manager Thiago Motta excluded Chiesa from his first two matchday squads this season.
