Liverpool are poised to commence discussions with Feyenoord on Wednesday regarding manager Arne Slot, as they seek to find a successor for Jurgen Klopp.
Klopp declared in January his departure from Anfield at the season’s end, prompting the Reds to extensively explore various candidates.
Slot, who steered Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in the 2022-23 season, has emerged as a candidate meeting Liverpool’s criteria.
Feyenoord, currently second in the Eredivisie, have clinched the Dutch Cup this season.
Slot was previously linked with Leeds United following the dismissal of manager Jesse Marsch in February 2023. He later withdrew himself from consideration for the Tottenham Hotspur position last summer, ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s appointment.
The 45-year-old subsequently extended his contract with Feyenoord until 2026.
At the time he was being linked with Spurs, Slot said: “The next step will not be another club in Holland. If that is the next step, I’ve failed completely in the upcoming few years.
“A normal next step would be to go abroad and I’ve always said that the best league in the world is the Premier League.”
Slot’s attacking approach, which has also captured the interest of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, along with his knack for nurturing players, is believed to resonate with Liverpool.
He assumed the role of Feyenoord head coach in December 2020 following his departure from AZ Alkmaar, where he achieved success in his initial managerial role.
Having spent his entire playing career in the Netherlands, the former midfielder amassed over 100 appearances for both FC Zwolle and NAC Breda.
Although Xabi Alonso was rumored for the Anfield position, the former Reds midfielder announced in March his decision to remain at Bayer Leverkusen, who have since claimed the German championship.
Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim is another prominent figure linked with the Liverpool managerial role.
