Liverpool’s recent acquisition, Jeremy Jacquet, has suffered what appears to be a serious shoulder problem, according to Rennes head coach Habib Beye.
Jacquet completed his move to Liverpool on Monday, with the transfer said to be worth £60m (€69.5m).
The 20-year-old is scheduled to arrive ahead of the upcoming season.
But his involvement could be delayed after he landed badly during Rennes’ 3-1 loss to Ligue 1 leaders Lens on Saturday.
“For Jeremy, it’s his shoulder,” Beye told reporters, as Jacquet was visibly in a lot of pain while being helped off the pitch.
“We’ll have time to see, but it’s definitely quite serious.”
The defender has made 19 Ligue 1 appearances this campaign, and Liverpool secured his signature despite strong interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea, with Jacquet representing France at youth level.
