Luton secure late victory over Everton in FA Cup

Cauley Woodrow, coming in as a substitute, secured a thrilling victory for Luton in additional time during the fourth round of the FA Cup against Everton.

In the late stages of the first half, Everton’s Mykolenko inadvertently scored an own goal, unable to avoid Alfie Doughty’s corner delivery that arrived at the near post. The goal marked the conclusion of a lackluster opening 45 minutes, with both teams facing challenges in generating scoring opportunities.

Despite staging a comeback, Everton struggled to shift the momentum in their favor as Luton created better opportunities. Elijah Adebayo forced a remarkable save from goalkeeper Joao Virginia, and Nathan Patterson cleared a shot from Carlton Morris off the line.

As the minutes ticked away, both Everton and Luton aimed to avoid a replay, leading to more open spaces. However, much like the first half, both teams were wasteful in front of goal.

The decisive moment came in the 96th minute when Woodrow volleyed in from close range after a goalmouth scramble, with Everton failing to clear their lines from a corner.

This marks only the second time Luton has reached the fifth round of the FA Cup since the 2012-13 season when they were in the Conference Premier, now known as the National League.
