Maignan, Milan walk off after alleged racist abuse towards AC Milan goalkeeper
The match between AC Milan and Udinese faced a temporary suspension on Saturday due to reported incidents of racist abuse directed at AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from the home fans.
Maignan brought the matter to the referee’s attention and subsequently left the pitch along with his teammates just after the half-hour mark.
This occurred shortly after Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek scored, placing the visitors in the lead with a well-placed first-time shot inside the post.
The Serie A match resumed approximately 10 minutes later.
AC Milan posted on X: “There is absolutely no place in our game for racism: we are appalled. We are with you, Mike.”
Three minutes later, France international Maignan, aged 28, conceded a goal from a Lazar Samardzic shot. The teams entered halftime with the score tied at 1-1, following six minutes of stoppage time.
