Manchester City have officially completed the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli from French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille.
The 34-year-old has returned to the Premier League champions on a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2028. The transfer fee has reportedly been placed at around €2 million.
The move marks Rulli’s second spell with Manchester City. He was previously on the club’s books during the 2016/17 season but did not make a senior appearance.
Rulli brings considerable experience from top European leagues and international football. The Argentina international has eight senior caps and was part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 Copa América.
His club career has included spells with Estudiantes de La Plata, Real Sociedad, Villarreal, Ajax, Montpellier and Marseille.
During his time at Villarreal, Rulli played a key role as the Spanish club defeated Manchester United in the 2020/21 Europa League final to claim the trophy.
His return to Manchester follows the departure of James Trafford and is expected to provide experienced cover for first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Rulli expressed his delight at getting another opportunity to represent Manchester City and said he was determined to make the most of it.
“This is a great opportunity, and I have to seize it. When the chance to join Manchester City comes, you have to accept it.
Everyone knows what a fantastic club this is. Manchester City’s success over the years is impressive. Everyone I talked to about Manchester City told me I had to join because it’s a club with incredibly high standards.
Every professional player wants to be in a high-level competitive environment. I can’t wait to get started because I know I can continue to improve and learn here, and that has always been my top priority.
Now my task is to train hard, get to know the team’s players and staff, and do my best to reach peak condition.”
