Manchester United have agreed to a €50 million (£42.29 million) fee with Paris Saint-Germain for Uruguay midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The deal also includes a potential €10 million (£8.46 million) in additional payments.

Ugarte could potentially travel to Manchester for a medical later today. This move comes simultaneously with midfielder Scott McTominay’s proposed €30 million (£25.37 million) transfer to Napoli.

Ugarte, who has been linked with United throughout the summer, is set to join the club just one year after transferring to PSG from Sporting Lisbon for a reported €60 million.

The 23-year-old made 37 appearances for PSG, including 25 in the league, contributing to their 12th Ligue 1 title.

It is understood that PSG have also negotiated a 10% sell-on clause for Ugarte, with both clubs reportedly satisfied with the agreement.

The completion of Ugarte’s transfer is contingent on McTominay finalizing his move to Napoli, though there is confidence at Old Trafford that the transfer will proceed. McTominay is expected to travel to Italy today for his medical.

United sources acknowledge that the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations create incentives for selling home-grown players.

Manager Erik ten Hag could not guarantee regular starts for Scott McTominay, and the club first considered offers for the 27-year-old a year ago.

Despite this, McTominay, who joined United’s soccer school at the age of five, made 32 Premier League appearances and scored seven goals last season. He also started in the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City.

United sources indicate that they identified Manuel Ugarte early in the transfer window and were patient in negotiations.

Ugarte, who was named to the Copa America team of the tournament following Uruguay’s run to the final, where they were defeated by Argentina, is expected to become United’s fifth signing of the summer.

If the transfer proceeds as anticipated, United’s overall spending will exceed £190 million.

Since Erik ten Hag’s appointment in 2022, United have invested nearly £600 million in new players.
