Man Utd close in on deal for Bayern’s De Ligt, Mazraoui

Manchester United are close to securing a deal for Bayern Munich duo Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, with the transfer expected to exceed £60 million.

According to BBC Sport, Bayern has accepted United’s bid of £38.6 million, plus £4.3 million in add-ons, for De Ligt.

De Ligt was the captain of Erik ten Hag’s Ajax team that reached the Champions League semi-final in 2019.

Additionally, United will pay £12.9 million for 26-year-old Moroccan defender Mazraoui.

United have identified central defense and right-back as critical areas to reinforce in Erik ten Hag’s squad. Ten Hag mentioned last weekend that the club’s new hierarchy is “eager” to finalize deals.

Mazraoui’s potential arrival coincides with the departure of right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who joined United from Crystal Palace for £50 million in 2019.

United have agreed on a deal with West Ham for Wan-Bissaka, and the 26-year-old is scheduled for a medical with the Hammers on Sunday.

Earlier in the summer, United had two bids for Everton’s England international Jarrad Branthwaite turned down, with Everton maintaining a £70 million valuation.

Consequently, De Ligt, 24, is considered a more affordable and experienced option.

Both De Ligt and Mazraoui previously played in front of United goalkeeper Andre Onana during their time at Ajax.

De Ligt joined Juventus in 2019 for £67.5 million, winning one Serie A title and one Coppa Italia in 117 appearances before moving to Bayern in 2022 for £65.6 million.

He has played 73 games for Bayern, winning the Bundesliga.
