Manchester United have secured the signing of midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain for a deal that could total £50.5 million.

The 23-year-old Uruguayan international has signed a five-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months.

United will pay an initial £42.1 million, with potential add-ons amounting to £8.4 million.

This acquisition marks the club’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, bringing their total spending to just over £190 million.

Ugarte made 37 appearances for PSG across all competitions last season, contributing to the club’s 12th Ligue 1 title after joining from Sporting Lisbon for a reported £50.5 million.

As part of the deal, PSG has negotiated a 10% sell-on clause, with both clubs reportedly satisfied with the terms.

“It is an incredible feeling to join a club of this magnitude; one that is admired all around the world,” said Ugarte.

“Manchester United is an ambitious club and I am an ambitious player. I know how incredible United fans are and I cannot wait to experience Old Trafford.

“I’m someone who is so determined to succeed; I will sacrifice and give everything for my team-mates. Together we will fight to win trophies and reach the level where this club needs to be.”

United sporting director Dan Ashworth said: “Signing Manuel was another of our primary targets for this summer.

“He is among the very best ball-winning midfield players in the world and has an excellent record at both club and international level. His qualities, experience and passion will be a great complement to our strong group of midfielders.”

“Ugarte’s transfer to United was finalized just hours after Scotland international Scott McTominay departed Old Trafford to join Napoli.

United secured a £25.7 million fee for the 27-year-old academy graduate, along with a 10% sell-on clause. McTominay, who made 255 appearances in all competitions and scored 29 goals, leaves after a significant tenure at the club.

Earlier in the day, United also confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Mali youth midfielder Sekou Kone from Guidars, with the transfer fee reported to be around £1 million.

Since Erik ten Hag took over as manager in 2022, United have invested nearly £600 million in new players. Ugarte now joins Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui as part of the summer acquisitions.

With McTominay’s sale, the club has recouped over £85 million this summer.”
