Manchester City are nearing the signing of Palmeiras’ teenage defender Vitor Reis.

The Premier League club has been in negotiations with Palmeiras for several weeks and, after some initial resistance, has made significant progress.

City now believe the 19-year-old will eventually join them.

Palmeiras had hoped to retain Reis for next summer’s Club World Cup, but City sources suggest that if the reported £29.4m deal is finalized, the defender will join them immediately.

Reis, a Brazil under-17 international, has made 18 league appearances for Palmeiras.

A right-footed central defender, he is expected to be part of a reshaping of Pep Guardiola’s squad, which also includes plans to sign Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.

Additionally, talks are ongoing with Eintracht Frankfurt over a deal for striker Omar Marmoush.
