A resolute Manchester United battled to a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, as the Premier League leaders extended their advantage to six points at the top of the table.

Cody Gakpo equalised Lisandro Martinez’s stunning opener, and Mohamed Salah’s penalty put Liverpool ahead, but Amad Diallo’s late goal secured a point for United.

Liverpool remain six points clear of Arsenal with a game in hand but missed the chance to further widen the gap. Arne Slot’s men had turned the game around after Gakpo and Salah’s strikes, only to concede Diallo’s leveller in the 80th minute.

United ended a six-year scoring drought at Anfield with Martinez’s thunderous strike and showed renewed vigour under manager Ruben Amorim, climbing to 13th and seven points above the relegation zone.

Liverpool’s early dominance nearly paid off as Gakpo and Salah came close, but United grew into the match, squandering chances through Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund before finding their feet.

Martinez’s blistering shot gave United the lead, but Gakpo’s composed finish and Salah’s penalty restored Liverpool’s advantage. Despite Salah’s efforts, a resurgent United secured the draw when Alejandro Garnacho’s low cross set up Diallo.

United could have stolen all three points late on, but Harry Maguire missed a golden opportunity, firing over from close range.
