Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, piling pressure on Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim as his side now sits 15th in the Premier League table.

James Maddison netted the only goal after 13 minutes, lifting Spurs above United into 12th and securing their third victory over the Red Devils this season.

The win eased pressure on Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, who has faced criticism following early exits from both domestic cup competitions. It was Spurs’ first home league victory since November, achieved despite ongoing fan protests against club ownership.

Before kick-off, Tottenham supporters displayed banners calling for chairman Daniel Levy to step down, highlighting frustration over the club’s lack of silverware. However, Postecoglou was boosted by the return of key players, including goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and Maddison.

United, meanwhile, struggled with injuries, with Amad Diallo and Lisandro Martínez sidelined for the season and Kobbie Mainoo out for a month. Amorim was forced to name eight teenagers on the bench, while Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee started up front.

Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho both had early chances, but Vicario denied them with crucial saves. Spurs capitalised when André Onana parried Lucas Bergvall’s shot into Maddison’s path for a simple tap-in.

United wasted further chances, with Garnacho and Zirkzee missing key opportunities. Onana kept them in the game with a late save from Dejan Kulusevski, but Amorim’s side failed to break down Spurs’ makeshift defence.

United’s attacking struggles continue, having scored just 28 goals in 25 league games—only the bottom three and Everton have managed fewer.
