Manchester United winger withdraws from Argentina squad with knee problem

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has withdrawn from Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Bolivia due to a knee injury.

The 20-year-old, who played the full 90 minutes of United’s 0-0 Premier League draw against Aston Villa on Sunday while wearing a knee brace on his left leg, has been replaced in the Argentina squad by Leicester City’s Facundo Buonanotte.

Argentina, the reigning world champions, currently lead the South American qualifying table, two points ahead of second-placed Colombia. Lionel Scaloni’s side will face sixth-placed Venezuela on Thursday and host eighth-placed Bolivia next Tuesday.

Garnacho, who has earned seven caps for Argentina, was part of the squad that secured a record 16th Copa America title this summer.

Meanwhile, Garnacho’s Manchester United teammate, Noussair Mazraoui, 26, has pulled out of Morocco’s squad for their Africa Cup of Nations doubleheader against the Central African Republic.

Mazraoui, who has started every league game for United since joining from Bayern Munich in August, was substituted at half-time during the weekend’s match.
