England defender Luke Shaw’s participation in Euro 2024 is uncertain due to a leg injury, with Manchester United indicating that he could be sidelined “for several months.”
Shaw, aged 28, was substituted shortly before halftime in his team’s Premier League victory against Luton on Sunday.
This occurred only seven days after he did not feature in the second half of his team’s triumph against Aston Villa.
Following the Luton game, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag expressed concern, stating that the situation “didn’t appear promising” for Shaw.
“Luke Shaw has sustained a muscle injury and will be out for an extended period,” said United in a statement.
“Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months.”
Shaw’s injury raises concerns about his inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming Euros in Germany.
Additionally, it leaves Ten Hag’s Manchester United without an established left-back.
During the January transfer window, the Dutch manager decided to terminate Sergio Reguilon’s loan from Tottenham, anticipating the return of Shaw and Tyrell Malacia from injury.
However, Malacia, a Dutchman, has yet to make an appearance this season, leaving Victor Lindelof as the probable choice for Saturday’s home match against Fulham.
