Marseille close in on £17m deal for Tottenham midfielder

French club Marseille are in advanced negotiations to sign Tottenham and Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The 28-year-old is reportedly eager to leave north London and is available for around £17 million.

Discussions are ongoing regarding payment terms, but both parties are optimistic about finalizing the deal.

Hojbjerg, who joined Spurs in 2020 from Southampton for £15 million during Jose Mourinho’s tenure, made 39 appearances last season.

However, only 10 of those were starts, as manager Ange Postecoglou preferred Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in central midfield.

With Hojbjerg entering the final year of his contract, he will be available on a free transfer in 2025 if new terms are not negotiated.

Tottenham has bolstered their midfield this summer by signing Archie Gray from Leeds and Lucas Bergvall from Djurgardens in Sweden.

Marseille, under new manager Roberto de Zerbi, have been active in the transfer market, adding forward Mason Greenwood from Manchester United and midfielder Ismael Kone from Watford.

They are also reportedly interested in Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.
