Mbappe scores hat-trick as PSG defeat Montpellier

Kylian Mbappe netted three goals to complete a hat-trick as Paris St-Germain routed Montpellier, extending their lead to 12 points in Ligue 1.

Vitinha initiated the scoring, followed by Mbappe’s first goal from a narrow angle. Arnaud Nordin found the net for the hosts, and Teji Savanier leveled the score.

Mbappe’s 50th-minute strike ricocheted off the crossbar before he netted his third goal from close range. Lee Kang-in and Nuno Mendes also contributed goals for PSG.

Mbappe’s tally now stands at 24 league goals for the season, marking his third hat-trick of the campaign. Recent weeks have seen the 25-year-old experience an unusual spell, with two benchings in PSG’s last three league fixtures. In a notable instance, he watched the second half of the Monaco match alongside his mother in the stands.

These benchings coincided with the announcement of his impending move to Real Madrid at the end of the season. Despite this, Mbappe still has an opportunity to pursue European success with PSG, who are set to face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Furthermore, PSG appears poised to secure their fourth league title in the last five seasons, as they widen the gap even further from second-placed Brest, who settled for a 1-1 draw against Lille earlier in the day.
