France kickstarted their Nations League campaign with a commanding win over Belgium.
After suffering a 3-1 defeat to Italy in their League A Group 2 opener on Friday, Didier Deschamps’ team faced another tough test against the Belgians.
France captain Kylian Mbappe, who played the full match against Italy, began this game on the bench as Deschamps opted for a completely new forward line.
Belgium started brightly but conceded just before the half-hour mark when Kolo Muani capitalized on a loose ball to score his sixth goal for France.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele doubled the lead after the break with a sharp finish.
Mbappe was introduced midway through the second half and had two clear opportunities but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Italy win again
Italy continued their impressive start in the Nations League with a second consecutive victory, defeating Israel 2-1.
Following their Euro 2024 last-16 exit, Italy opened the scoring through Davide Frattesi, who skillfully chested in a cross.
Moise Kean extended the lead in the second half, slotting home after Giacomo Raspadori’s shot was parried by the goalkeeper.
Israel managed a late consolation when Mohammad Abu Fani produced a brilliant stoppage-time finish.
Italy now sit at the top of Group 2 with six points from their two matches.
