Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay scored just 25 seconds into the match to net his first Serie A goal for Napoli, helping secure a 3-1 victory over Como and extend their lead at the top of the table.

The 27-year-old joined Napoli from Manchester United at the end of August and had previously scored his first goal for the club during their Coppa Italia win against Palermo last month.

In Friday’s match, McTominay found the back of the net with a strike from inside the box.

Como equalized just before halftime when Gabriel Strefezza’s low, long-range shot threaded through a crowded penalty area and into the bottom left corner.

Romelu Lukaku put Napoli back in front from the penalty spot eight minutes into the second half, after Sergi Roberto fouled Mathias Olivera.

David Neres sealed the win in the 86th minute, finishing a one-on-one after latching onto a through ball, leaving Antonio Conte’s side four points ahead of Juventus, who face Cagliari on Sunday.

“I don’t know if this is currently a Napoli that deserves to be in first place in the standings, but we are first and that is a fact,” said Conte.

“If someone had told me this three months ago, it would have been difficult to believe.

“We’re growing in terms of temperament, and in our ability to adapt – playing good football, but also willing to get our hands dirty when we need to. That’s a great sign, and we have to embrace it fully.”
