Inter Miami is one step closer to winning another trophy after defeating the MLS Eastern Conference League leaders, FC Cincinnati, on penalties to reach the US Open Cup final.
The Herons were on the verge of a stunning comeback after trailing by two goals, but they conceded a late equalizer in extra time to force a penalty shootout against one of the best teams in the division.
Lionel Messi’s goal-scoring streak ended , but he still produced magic with two assists for Leonardo Campana, who scored two goals to help Inter Miami draw 3-3 with FC Cincinnati after 120 minutes. Miami won the penalty shootout 5-4 to set up a final against Houston Dynamo, who beat Real Salt Lake on September 27.

Beckham reacts to Miami’s victory
David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, was instrumental in bringing Lionel Messi to the MLS. He has been a regular at the stadium for their games and celebrated with the team after their Leagues Cup victory.
The Manchester United legend was delighted to lift another trophy with the club, founded just five years ago and is currently at the bottom of the league.
He said on his Instagram page, “Another great night in pink, a great performance from the team to reach another final… very proud.”
