Messi nets hat trick for Argentina, says games ‘can be my last’
Argentina captain Lionel Messi has acknowledged that he is playing his “last games” after netting a hat-trick in Tuesday night’s 2026 World Cup qualifier against Bolivia.
Messi contributed three goals and two assists, leading the world champions to a 6-0 victory at the Monumental de Núñez Stadium.
Following the match, the Inter Miami star expressed that he is trying to cherish every moment he has left with the national team.
“It is very nice to play here feeling the affection of the Argentina fans,” Messi said.
“It makes me emotional to listen to how they shout my name. We all enjoy this connection with the fans and we love playing at home.”
When asked about his future, and if he would play at the 2026 World Cup, Messi replied: “I didn’t set any date or deadline about my future.
“I’m just enjoying all this. I am more emotional than ever and taking all the love from the people because I know these can be my last games.”
