Mikel affirms his position as Nigeria’s most decorated player

Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi, asserts his position as the most accomplished and decorated Nigerian player in history.

The former captain of the Super Eagles expressed this sentiment in a podcast conversation with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mikel Obi played for clubs like Lyn Oslo, Chelsea, Stoke City, and others, with his time at Chelsea being particularly renowned for his remarkable achievements.

The former Nigerian international secured all domestic and European titles with Chelsea, although he fell short of winning the UEFA Super Cup.

As a key player for the Nigerian national team, the legendary midfielder clinched the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] in 2013.

During a discussion on the Obi One Podcast about Victor Osimhen’s historic achievement as the highest-ranked Nigerian in Ballon d’Or history, Mikel Obi suggested that the Napoli striker must surpass his records.

“I am still the most successful and decorated football player in Nigeria,” he said.

“But he [Victor Osimhen] got an award that I never got. He was ranked number 8 in the world by Ballon d’Or. That’s absolutely amazing. I must say congratulations.”

“The season you had, it was fantastic and I never got to that stage. You’ve raised the bar so high.”
