Everton manager David Moyes will “drive the club forward,” says his predecessor, Sean Dyche.
Moyes was appointed on Saturday for a second stint as manager, just two days after Dyche’s dismissal.
Dyche, who took over in January 2023, guided Everton to safety in the 2023-24 season, finishing just above the Premier League relegation zone. He also secured a 15th-place finish last season, despite the team facing an eight-point deduction for breaching financial regulations.
Everton currently sit 16th in the league table, just one point clear of the relegation zone.
In a statement, released through the League Managers Association, Dyche said: “David is a manager who I have great respect for and I believe he and his staff will help to push the club forward again and build on the stable footing we have implemented in the past two years.
“The right time has come to leave the club, with the team in good shape.
“My part as a custodian has been played and I will forever take great pride in that.”
Everton faced two sanctions last season for financial breaches.
Initially docked 10 points, the penalty was reduced to six after an appeal, followed by an additional two-point deduction by the Premier League.
Sean Dyche described his tenure as one of the “toughest periods” in Everton’s history, marked by “extremely difficult situations.”
David Moyes will make his return as Everton manager on Wednesday when they host Aston Villa in the league.
Moyes previously managed the club from 2002 to 2013, achieving nine top-eight finishes and guiding the team to an FA Cup final.
