Napoli place €180m price tag on Osimhen

Napoli, the Serie A champions, have set a starting price of €180 million for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for the summer transfer window.

The club president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, will up the asking price for his star striker for the third time.

During the summer transfer window in 2022, the Naples-based club put Osimhen’s fee at €120 million, and then during the winter transfer window in January, the president set the value at €150 million, while insisting that Osimhen would not leave the club in the middle of the season.

As the transfer deadline approaches, so do Osimhen’s suitors, with PSG, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich all apparently interested in the Nigeria international.

According to French publication, Le Parisien, the transfer fee has now been set at €180m for the 2023/24 summer window.

Osimhen has emerged as a prime target for United this summer with club legends like Rio Ferdinand urging the 20-time EPL champions to sign him following his impressive display for the Serie A champions last season, helping the Parthenopeans to their first league title in 33 years.

The 24-year-old prolific striker had an outstanding campaign with Napoli, scoring 31 goals and providing five assists from just 39 appearances across all competitions.

Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of a new striker for next season given Anthony Martial’s fitness struggles and the return of Wout Weghorst to Burnley.

De Laurentiis revealed that Osimhen has already agreed to a contract extension at Naples saying, “We already talked to Osimhen before the Scudetto celebration, so we already have a basic agreement on a two-year extension of his contract.

“I have said for a while that Osimhen has to stay. Then, if an offer came in that I could not refuse for the good of Napoli, then we would consider it, as is only natural.”

Osimhen, who has spent three years at Napoli, recently admitted that his ‘dream’ was to play in the Premier League.
