Nigeria will have to face the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday without Wilfred Ndidi.

The Super Eagles booked their spot in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs on Thursday night in Rabat after a convincing 4-1 win over Gabon.

Ndidi received a yellow card in the sixth minute for a late challenge on Dennis Bounaga during the lively encounter.

It was the Leicester City midfielder’s second caution of the qualifying campaign.

He had earlier been booked on matchday five against Rwanda’s Amavubi in Kigali.

Ndidi impressed in the victory over Gabon, even setting up Chidera Ejuke for Nigeria’s second goal.

Frank Onyeka of Brentford is the leading candidate to replace him, while Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika is another possible option.
