Newcastle marked a resounding return to the win column in the Premier League at St James’ Park, with second-half goals from Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton, and Anthony Gordon making the decisive impact against Chelsea.

A free header by Lascelles from Gordon’s cross gave the Magpies a 2-1 lead on the hour mark, and Joelinton swiftly capitalized on a Thiago Silva error, doubling the hosts’ advantage just 90 seconds later.

Alexander Isak, back in action, opened the scoring in an engaging first half, calmly finishing beyond Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from 17-year-old Lewis Miley’s precise pass.

Raheem Sterling’s exquisite free-kick leveled the score 10 minutes later, but Chelsea’s own mistakes in the second half, leading to goals by Lascelles and Joelinton, put the game out of reach for the Blues.

Chelsea found themselves reduced to 10 men when Reece James received a second yellow card for a foul on Gordon. The former Everton player then scored low to Sanchez’s left, sealing the late goal to complete the scoring.

The victory propels Newcastle to within three points of fourth-placed Tottenham, while Chelsea’s fifth league defeat of the season places them just inside the top half.
