Neymar May Miss World Cup
Paris Saint Germain and Brazil forward Neymar might be ruled out of the 2018 World Cup after further inspection of the injury he picked up on Sunday.
Neymar had on Sunday, in the game against Monaco crumpled to the ground in pain with it being speculated that it was an ankle sprain.
However, the PSG medical staff have confirmed that it is more than an ankle sprain and rued him out of partaking in the Champions League match against Real Madrid next week and Brazil’s friendly matches in March.
According to the medical report on the club website, Neymar suffered a fracture to his fifth metatarsal, the long bone on the outside of the foot that connects to the little toe.
“Complementary examinations performed this day (ultrasound and CT) confirmed antero external sprain of the right ankle but also the associated existence of a fissure of the fifth metatarsal,” the report read.
The Brazilian was stretchered off in tears as strikes from Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani plus an own goal from Rolando gave PSG a 3-0 win at the Parc des Princes.
The injury means Neymar would be running against time to be fit in time to be selected in the Brazil team to the World Cup in Russia.
