The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has set up a “fact-finding committee” to investigate the poor run of the country’s national teams at international competitions.
In a statement on Friday, the federation said the committee will pay “specific attention” to the Super Falcons’ failure to qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Falcons failed to qualify for the women’s World Cup for the first time since the competition was launched in 1991. They lost to South Africa 2-1 in a continental playoff on Thursday.
The team had earlier missed out on one of the four automatic tickets for the competition after losing to Cameroon in the quarter-final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Sunday.
NFF has appointed a six-member committee to probe the team’s failings, with Fanny Amun, former general secretary of the federation, as chair.
Other panel members include Ladan Bosso, former Flying Eagles coach; Desire Oparanozie, former Super Falcons captain; Mutiu Adepoju, ex-Super Eagles star; and Alex Mana, a former referee.
Nasiru Sa’idu, the chair of Sokoto State Football Association, will serve as the secretary.
The Falcons’ failure comes barely a year after the Super Eagles also missed out on the men’s World Cup, which was held in North America. The men’s team had lost to DR Congo on penalties in the continental playoff.
