Tottenham’s first signing of the January transfer window Netherlands winger Arnaut Danjuma, who joins on a season-long loan from Villarreal.

After it appeared like the 25-year-old would sign with struggling Everton in the Premier League, Antonio Conte’s team jumped in to sign Danjuma.

Danjuma will provide Conte another attacking option as he attempts to lead struggling Tottenham, who are now in fifth place in the Premier League, back into the top four.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to international clearance,” a statement on Tottenham’s website said on Wednesday.

Apart from Harry Kane, Tottenham’s strikers have had trouble finding their best play, while Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison have all occasionally dealt with injuries.

Danjuma, a Nigerian, could make his Tottenham debut against second-tier Preston on Saturday in the FA Cup’s fourth round.

When the 25-year-old joined Bournemouth in 2019, he experienced his first taste of the Premier League.

Prior to joining with La Liga team Villarreal in 2021, he played two years with the Cherries, scoring 17 goals in 52 games.

He contributed significantly to the Spanish club’s journey to the Champions League semifinals during his debut season there, scoring six goals in 11 matches.

Prior to scoring six goals in 17 games in all competitions this season, he scored 10 goals in 23 La Liga games played the previous season.
