Nigeria has qualified for the 2024 International Handball Federation (IHF) Women’s Youth World Championship taking place in China. In the quarterfinals of the ongoing Africa Women’s Youth Handball Championship in Monastir, Tunisia, the team secured a decisive 28-14 victory against Morocco.
The Nigerian U-18 women’s handball team approached the quarterfinal match against Morocco with a clear goal in mind: a victory would secure their qualification for the World Championship.
Under the guidance of Coach Shittu Adewunmi, the Nigerian team displayed commendable performance throughout the match. Chidera Ogwumsimba stood out as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the encounter.
The NHF reports that this marks the inaugural participation of the U-18 Women’s team in the World Championship.
Additionally, the U-18 women’s team is slated to compete in the IHF Women Trophy Intercontinental Phase later this year. Today, Nigeria is set to face Egypt in the semifinals of the African Youth Handball Championship at 6:30 pm.
