The Nigerian Community in Limpopo Province of South Africa, says it is mobilising Nigerians in the area to cheer the National U-20 female national team, the Falconets against South Africa.
South Africa will host Nigeria in the final round, first leg of the U-20 Women`s World Cup qualifier in Polokwane on Jan.13.
The Secretary of Nigerian Union, Limpopo Province chapter, Collins Mgbo, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the telephone from Polokwane on Wednesday that Nigerians in the area were ready for the match.
“ The union has commenced serious mobilisation of Nigerians in the province. Polokwane is the capital of the province, but we have contacted Wards in the province on the need to watch the match.
“ The response has been very encouraging because our people have pledged to watch the match and give massive support to the Falconets,” he said.
Mgbo said that Nigerians in the area are aware of the importance of the match because the winner of the two-legged fixture would represent Africa at the FIFA Women World Cup in France.
According to him, the Nigerian Consulate in South Africa has urged them to ensure that the team is well received.
“ In this regard, we are working very hard with all stakeholders in the Province to make the team comfortable and cheer them to victory.
“ I believe that when the Falconets see Nigerians, they will up their game. We assure them of total support and warm reception during their stay in South Africa,” Mgbo said.
The winner over two legs will represent Africa at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France slated from August 5 to August 24, 2018.
