Fulham’s Alex Iwobi has exceeded John Mikel Obi’s record for the highest number of minutes played by a Nigerian in the English Premier League.

During Fulham’s recent 1-0 home defeat to Newcastle United, Iwobi showcased his endurance by playing the entire 90 minutes, elevating his Premier League minutes to an impressive 16,289. This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous record of 16,218 minutes held by former Chelsea stalwart John Mikel Obi.

Iwobi’s journey in the Premier League commenced with Arsenal, where he debuted on October 31, 2015. Following a successful stint with the Gunners, the versatile midfielder transferred to Everton in 2019 before joining Fulham last summer.

Consistently featuring for his respective clubs, Iwobi has accumulated significant playing time on the field. In the current season alone, the 27-year-old has made 24 league appearances for Fulham, scoring five goals. His overall appearances in the league tally 247, with a total of 22 goals.

Mikel Obi, the former record holder, enjoyed a distinguished career in the Premier League, spending 11 seasons with Chelsea and securing numerous accolades, including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and a Champions League crown.
