Nigerian Elite Referee and FIFA badge, Yemisi Akintoye has been nominated to officiate at the 2023 African Women’s Champions League happening in Cote d’Ivoire from November 5 to November 19.
This graduate from the University of Lagos emerged as one of the 17 referees initially shortlisted from all across Africa and was ultimately among the 12 referees chosen after completing a rigorous one-week pre-tournament training course.
A statement released by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday confirmed Yemisi Akintoye’s role as one of the referees at the 2023 African Women’s Champions League.
The statement also noted that Akintoye will be officiating alongside Salma Musaganda from Rwanda, who holds the distinction of being the first African female referee to officiate at the men’s World Cup.
Yemisi Akintoye earned her FIFA Referee badge in 2021 and has previously officiated at various international tournaments, including the WAFU Women’s Champions League and the Aisha Buhari Tournament, among others.
