Nigeria’s 4x100m women, 4x400m women and 4x100m men’s relay teams have qualified for the 17th World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, from September 27 to October 6, The Punch report.

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria confirmed this on Wednesday, saying it got the confirmation via its official email.

Nigeria is expected to go into the 4x100m men’s relay with Seye Ogunlewe, who has a personal best of 10.11secs, Raymond Ekevwo – 09.96secs, Divine Oduduru – 09.86secs, Usheoritse Itsekiri – 10.02secs, and Enoch Adegoke –10.12secs.

The quartet of Patience Okon-George, Glory Nathaniel, Praise Idamadudu and Yinka Ajayi, who clocked 3:25.29 on their way to winning silver at the Commonwealth Games in 2018, are favourites to represent Nigeria in the women’s 4x400m relay.

The AFN Technical Director, Sunday Adeleye, said, “When I got the news, I was excited because we have one of the strongest teams in the world, but execution was the problem in Morocco (African Games). Now, we have learnt from our mistakes and you should expect the best. Even the Ghanaian team that defeated us don’t have the quality of our team.

“When we get to Doha, we will see everybody’s form. We just returned from Morocco but you know in athletics, form matters. We have surplus athletes.

“We have three in the final straight in the 100m men’s list. We also have others that will be joining the relay team. We are going there to give a good fight and a good account of ourselves.”
