Nottingham Forest has signed Nuno Espirito Santo on a two-and-a-half-year deal as the replacement for Steve Cooper.

Cooper was dismissed on Tuesday after a two-year tenure, as Nottingham Forest endured five defeats in their last six league games, placing them in the 17th position on the table.

Nuno Espirito Santo, the former manager of Wolves and Tottenham, who was terminated by Saudi Pro-League club Al-Ittihad in November, has been appointed to take over.

The 49-year-old’s inaugural match in charge will be the home Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Nuno enjoyed a successful four-year stint at Wolves, achieving promotion from the Championship in his first season and securing consecutive seventh-placed finishes in the Premier League. Additionally, he led the team to the Europa League quarter-finals.

Having left Molineux in the summer of 2021 to join Spurs, Nuno faced dismissal after less than four months in charge, following a string of five defeats in seven games.

He became part of Al-Ittihad in July 2022 and successfully guided the Jeddah-based team to win the Saudi title last season. However, he was let go 12 games into the new campaign due to a series of unsatisfactory results.

Nottingham Forest has secured just one victory in their previous 13 top-flight games, amassing eight points during that span. In their last six matches, they have garnered only one point and currently hold a five-point lead over Luton, who are positioned third from bottom and have a match in hand.
