Nottingham Forest dismiss Steve Cooper, hold talks with Nuno Espirito Santo

Nottingham Forest has terminated the contract of manager Steve Cooper and is currently in discussions with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo as his potential replacement.

Following a series of five losses in their last six games, Nottingham Forest has taken decisive action, informing manager Steve Cooper of their decision on Tuesday.

Nuno Espirito Santo, 49, who was dismissed by Saudi Pro-League club Al-Ittihad in November, is currently in discussions as a potential replacement.

Although former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner has been considered, it appears that Nuno is now the leading candidate.

Nottingham Forest, currently positioned 17th in the top flight, has secured just one victory in their last 13 Premier League games, accumulating eight points during that period.

With only one point from their recent six matches, they are five points ahead of Luton, who occupy the third-bottom position and have a match in hand.

While Cooper has consistently enjoyed support from Nottingham Forest fans, owner Evangelos Marinakis has grown increasingly concerned about the club’s current situation.

Forest is set to face Bournemouth at the City Ground on Saturday, followed by challenging fixtures against Newcastle United on December 26 and Manchester United at home on December 30.

Nuno Espirito Santo spent a successful four-year tenure as the manager of Wolves, achieving promotion from the Championship in his debut season and securing consecutive seventh-place finishes in the Premier League. Additionally, he led the team to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

After departing Molineux in the summer of 2021, the Portuguese former goalkeeper joined Tottenham Hotspur but faced dismissal in less than four months following a sequence of five defeats in seven games.

Subsequently, Nuno took charge at Al-Ittihad in July 2022, where he guided the Jeddah-based side to the Saudi title last season. However, he was relieved of his duties 12 games into the new campaign due to a series of unfavorable results.

Prior to his time with Wolves, Nuno had managerial stints at Rio Ave, Valencia, and Porto.
