Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus has officially left Arsenal for Barcelona after the two clubs reached an agreement over his transfer.
Barcelona announced the signing on Tuesday, confirming that the former Manchester City striker has signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the Catalan club until June 2029.
The move brings an end to Jesus’ four-year spell with Arsenal, where he became an important member of the squad following his arrival from Manchester City in 2022.
OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
“Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus to the blaugranes. The Brazilian striker signs on as a culer for three seasons.”
Jesus began his football career in São Paulo, where he played for Anhanguera before joining Palmeiras’ youth academy.
He made his senior debut for Palmeiras in 2015 and quickly rose to prominence. During his time at the club, he won the Brazilian Cup and the Brazilian league title, while his performances earned him the Brazilian league’s best-player award in 2016.
His rapid development attracted the attention of several European clubs, with Manchester City eventually signing him in 2016.
The Brazilian spent six seasons at the Etihad, making 236 appearances, scoring 95 goals and providing 45 assists. He won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups and two Community Shields during his time in England.
Jesus joined Arsenal in July 2022 and went on to make 123 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 32 goals and registering 22 assists.
His Arsenal career was disrupted by a serious knee injury in January 2025, which kept him out of action for several months. He returned in December and later contributed to Arsenal’s Premier League triumph during the 2025/26 campaign, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.
At international level, Jesus represented Brazil at youth level before making his senior debut in September 2016.
He was part of the Brazil team that won gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, scoring three goals during the tournament.
The striker also featured for Brazil at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and was part of the squad that won the 2019 Copa América.
Jesus now begins a new chapter in his career at Barcelona, where he will be hoping to rediscover his best form and make a strong impression in Spanish football.
