Nottingham Forest dismissed manager Sean Dyche on Wednesday following a disappointing home stalemate against Wolves that left the club just three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.
The decision means Forest will be appointing their fourth manager of the campaign, with Dyche departing less than four months after taking over.
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” the club announced in a statement on X.
“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future.”
A goalless draw against bottom-placed Wolves deepened Forest’s relegation concerns, and Dyche’s players were met with boos from the home crowd at the City Ground after the final whistle.
After the match, Dyche cut a downbeat figure, admitting his position was under serious threat and acknowledging that owner Evangelos Marinakis might opt to make another managerial change.
Marinakis had already parted company with Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou earlier this season, and his frustration resurfaced after Forest failed to score despite registering 35 attempts on goal.
The 54-year-old, formerly of Everton and Burnley, described himself as a “realist” regarding his uncertain future and spoke as though he expected the outcome.
“The owner has been fair to me, without a shadow of a doubt,” he said. “If anyone chooses to change in football now, that’s their decision. We’ve all seen it,” he added, just hours after Tottenham dismissed Thomas Frank.
“If the owner wants to make a change, then that’s up to him, and that’s the way football is now, that’s just the reality of it.
“He’s been absolutely fair with me from the beginning to the end, and I’ve been fair with him and told him the truth every step of the way.”
Forest had enjoyed a strong campaign under Nuno last term, earning a Europa League spot, but the Portuguese coach was removed after a disagreement with Marinakis over transfer matters.
Postecoglou’s tenure lasted only 39 days, while Dyche remained in charge for 114 days.
Marinakis now has the opportunity to appoint yet another head coach as Forest prepare for a Europa League trip to face Fenerbahce on February 19, followed by a home clash with Liverpool three days later.
