Matthew Ebden and John Peers staged a comeback from a set and a break down to defeat America’s Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram, securing Olympic gold for Australia in the men’s doubles in Paris.

They clinched the title with a 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-1), 10-8 victory in the first-to-10 match tie-break, converting their fourth match point.

Peers, who previously won bronze in mixed doubles with Ash Barty in Tokyo, now adds a gold medal to his collection. Ram, who has four Grand Slam doubles titles with Briton Joe Salisbury, missed out on his first Olympic gold.

Australia’s victory came in the opening match of four medal contests at Roland Garros on Saturday.

China’s Zheng Qinwen will face Croatia’s Donna Vekic for gold in the women’s singles, while the bronze medalists in the men’s singles and men’s doubles will also be determined on the Paris clay.
