Onuachu Southampton’s debut delayed by work permit

Paul Onuachu won’t be able to play for his new Premier League team, Southampton, until the following week.

On Saturday, (today), the Saints take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Onuachu made a last-minute transfer from Belgian Pro League team KRC Genk to the South Coast club, but he won’t be able to play the Bees because the British Home Office hasn’t yet given him a work permission, according to Complete Sports.

On the final day before the transfer deadline, the Saints also signed Ghanaian midfielder Kamaldeen Sulemana.

The two players are not eligible for selection versus Bees, according to Southampton boss Nathan Jones.

“They’re in the building but we’re limited with what we can do with them because of the work permit situation,” Jones told reporters ahead of the game.

“You’re better off ringing the Home Office to find out. We can keep asking but until we get clarification on their work permits, neither will be involved.”

On the Premier League standings, Southampton are in last place.

According to reports, Genk’s Nigerian attacker Onuachu signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with struggling Southampton of the English Premier League.

The lanky striker, who was previously linked with Everton of the Premier League, agreed to a £15.8 million agreement with Southampton and Genk.

Prior to the deadline, Genk turned down Saints’ initial offer, therefore Everton was given the opportunity to sign the striker.
