Osimhen out as Nigeria name squad for AFCON Qualifiers (FULL LIST)

Victor Osimhen has been excluded from Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying doubleheader against Libya.

In the squad list released on Saturday, Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen left out Osimhen due to injury concerns but included in-form Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman in the 23-man roster.

The squad features regulars like captain William Ekong, wingers Moses Simon and Samuel Chukwueze, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi, and forward Victor Boniface, among others.

Defender Bright Osayi-Samuel makes his return after missing the AFCON qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda in September, while playmaker Chidera Ejuke is back in the fold after a lengthy absence.

Nigeria will face the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in a home-and-away clash, starting with a match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday, 11th October. The return leg will be played at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi on Tuesday, 15th October.

All invited players are expected to report to camp in Uyo on Monday, 7th October.
