Napoli striker Victor Osimhen was forced to withdraw from the club’s training on Tuesday after suffering an injury to his right ankle.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, an Italian creator, Osimhen departed Napoli’s training session during their practise match after colliding with new player Natan de Souza and receiving a hard hit to his right ankle.
He staggered off the pitch, evidently in pain, and immediately applied an ice pack to his ankle. Initial tests indicate that he has suffered an ankle sprain, which should not keep him out of play for long.
The team thinks he will be ready for their Serie A season start against Frosinone on August 19.
Before now, the Super Eagles striker missed Napoli’s penultimate pre-season game against Augsburg on Sunday due to a muscle strain, which he just fully recovered from. He had also missed a pre-season game against Girona.
The Nigerian has not trained fully with the team until Tuesday.
Osimhen has been regularly linked with a high-profile move away from Napoli this summer but seems likely to pen a new contract, despite the lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia.
The 24-year-old Nigerian forward was the star of the show for the Partenopei last season, netting 26 goals in 32 league games as the team flew to their first Scudetto in 33 years.
