Osimhen scores as Napoli thrash Verona 5-2

Nigeria’s striker, Victor Osimhen scored on Monday as Napoli thrashed Verona away from him 2-5 in their opening match in the Italian Serie A.

Napoli, playing away from home conceded the first goal on 29th minute from a corner kick.

A resulting corner was whipped into the box and Kevin Lasagna buried the ball into the back of the net from a Koray Gunter knock down.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia equalised for Napoli on 37 minutes, as he found some space inside the box and scored with a terrific header inside the left post, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Osimhen put the visitors into the lead on first half added time from a corner kick which met Giovanni Di Lorenzo, who flicked on with his head to him. He made no mistake and fired the ball into the back of the net.

The host equalised on 48 minutes, as Thomas Henry ran onto a clever lofted pass from Davide Faraoni and easily beat the keeper with a header into the top left corner from close range.

Piotr Zielinski gave Napoli a 2-3 lead after he ran onto a pass from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia after great counter attacking play and hit a fine first-time shot into the net from close range.

It was 2-4 for the visitors on 65 minutes as Stanislav Lobotka made a great solo run and pulled the trigger from inside the box, beating Lorenzo Montipo with a strike into the bottom right corner.

Napoli got their 5th goal on 79th minute as Osimhen displayed great vision and sent a pass to Matteo Politano, who showed brilliant composure inside the box to bury the ball into the bottom right corner.
