Victor Osimhen sustained a fractured arm during Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 second-leg encounter on Wednesday.

A statement released by the club on Thursday confirmed that the fracture was diagnosed following a hospital examination.

The Nigerian striker collided with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate early in the match during an aerial challenge. Konate landed on Osimhen’s arm, leaving him in visible discomfort, while some Liverpool players suggested the 27-year-old former Napoli forward was exaggerating the injury to disrupt play.

Despite the pain, Osimhen had his forearm strapped and completed the first half but was substituted at the start of the second half as Liverpool went on to secure a comprehensive 4-0 victory, eliminating the Turkish champions from the competition.

The club added that Osimhen’s arm has been placed in a medical cast, with a decision on surgery to be determined.

“In the first half of our away match against Liverpool in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg, our player Victor Osimhen took a blow to his arm and completed the first half, but following checks at halftime, he was not played in the second half due to the risk of a fracture in his arm.

“After the match, under the supervision of our medical team, examinations at the hospital revealed a fracture in our player’s right forearm, and it was casted.

“A decision regarding surgery will be made in the coming days following further evaluations.”

Osimhen was not the only casualty, as his replacement, Noa Lang, also suffered an injury during the match, sustaining a serious cut to his right thumb. The club confirmed that, unlike Osimhen, Lang will undergo surgery in Liverpool before returning to Turkey.

Before the injury, Osimhen had been a standout performer for Galatasaray in the Champions League, registering seven goals and three assists in 10 appearances, as well as earning four man-of-the-match awards.
