Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen is expected to return to action wearing special protective equipment on his arm after undergoing surgery for a fracture.
The 27-year-old forward sustained a hand fracture after a collision with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté during their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 encounter last week.
He subsequently had surgery earlier this week, with doctors projecting a recovery period of about six weeks. Although he is expected to return before the end of the season, he may need to use protective gear on the affected arm when he resumes playing.
Turkish journalist Arda Özkurt, speaking via Winner Galatasaray, explained:
“If Victor Osimhen’s treatment process progresses as planned, he can wear the jersey with a special protective splint if needed,” Özkurt was quoted.
The striker, who already plays with a protective mask following a cheekbone injury in 2021, could now add another layer of protection. The splint is designed to stabilise the forearm and wrist, reduce pain, and prevent further injury by limiting movement, often featuring adjustable straps and padded material for comfort.
Reports from Turkish media indicate that Osimhen may return in time for the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahçe on April 26, depending on his rehabilitation progress. If his recovery takes longer, he is likely to feature only in the final two league matches against Antalyaspor and Kasımpaşa.
He will also be hoping to help Galatasaray progress further in the Turkish Cup, where they are currently in the quarter-finals and set to face Gençlerbirliği.
This season, Osimhen has scored 19 goals and registered seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, playing a key role in Galatasaray’s four-point lead in the league. He also contributed seven goals and three assists in 10 UEFA Champions League matches before their elimination.
