The management of Osun United FC on Monday appointed Duke Udi as the team’s new head coach after sacking Coach, Adebayo Adeshina, on Saturday due to a string of poor results.

Recall that this would be the second time Udi would be appointed as coach of the Osun United.

He was appointed the team’s coach last season before he left the club, mid-way to join Sunshine Stars of Akure.

Udi will be assisted by Coach Tony Alegbe who worked with him at Sunshine Stars.

According to a statement by the team’s Media Manager, Tunde Shamsudeen, Udi is expected to assume duties on Friday with a mandate to help the team achieve greatness at the end of the 2018 Nigeria National League (NNL).

Shamsudeen said Udi’s new appointment now saddled him with the responsibility of turning the nose-diving fortunes of the state team around.

He explained that the club on Saturday sacked Adesina and his assistants, Kazeem Oseni and Gbenga Obe, after series of poor results by the team.

Shamsudeen said the team, under Adeshina, only secured five points from possible 18 points from six games and that the team was languishing at the bottom of the NNL Group B2 log table.

He said the club’s President, Jimoh Olayemi, had agreed personal terms with Udi and confirmed that he would assume duties on June 8, to take charge and move the club up from the bottom spot of the log.

“We have reached an agreement with Udi. We’re confident he is going to return the team to its winning ways,’’ the statement quoted Olayemi as saying.

“Udi has expressed happiness on his second return to the team and promised that Osun United would get better and swim out of the relegation zone.

“It’s a great feeling to be back again with this team, I thank the management for this second chance and I promise to make everybody proud; we will work together to get out of our present position.’’
