A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and former Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, Kehinde Olaosebikan, has congratulated Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) over their qualification for the 2026/2027 CAF Confederation Cup.

The Ibadan-based side secured a continental ticket after finishing third in the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season, marking their return to African football after a long absence.

In a statement issued on Monday, Olaosebikan praised key stakeholders who, in his view, contributed to the club’s resurgence, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes, the club’s management, and supporters across Oyo State.

He highlighted the impact of traditional leadership on the team’s progress, noting, “The reign of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja Arusa 1 has restored the glory of Ibadan’s darling team.”

He also referenced an earlier moment of royal support, adding, “I recalled with nostalgia the blessing of the Olubadan at his Bodija residence on the players and management of 3SC shortly after he was announced as the new Imperial Majesty of Ibadanland.”

According to him, that backing has helped reshape the club’s fortunes, stating that “the Olubadan’s blessing has now turned around the fortune of the football team.”

Olaosebikan urged stakeholders to build on the achievement as the club prepares for continental competition, calling for stronger financial and institutional support.

He said, “The team should utilise the qualification for the continental competition to bring greater glory and development to the growth of 3SC, soccer and sports generally in Oyo State.”

He also appealed to the state government and wealthy individuals in Ibadan to support the club’s campaign in Africa.

3SC, one of Nigeria’s most historic clubs and former African champions, returns to continental football after finishing third with 60 points from 38 matches in the NPFL season.
